چکیده

Recently, there has been a sharp increase on the scholars’ collaborations and there are pros and cons by the effect of scientific collaboration on each scholar’ performance. Most of previous researches study the microlevel collaboration network to investigate the effects of scholars’ collaboration network structure on their performance but to our knowledge there so few macro-level collaboration network studies to evaluate the association between academic communities network structure and the communities’ academic performance. In this study, we analyze scientific collaboration network structure and network attributes of five information schools and test if there is any link between them and their academic performance. Analysis of collected data shows that the communities’ which are lower density and lower network degree centrality (more decentralized) have higher performance. This could be as a result of share more redundant knowledge in the dense and centralized scientific collaboration networks, which is an obstacle for innovation and new ideas.

Toward a Dynamic Theory of Open Online Collaboration Communities

This paper reports a research in progress aimed at building an integrated theoretical framework for studying ‘open online collaboration communities’. A dynamic feedback modeling and simulation approach is suggested for exploring and articulating a preliminary theoretical framework, which will be useful in analyzing policy options for improving the performance of a range of open online collabora...

Community Detection and Characteristics Analysis of Academic Network

Clustering and categorization of academic network, especially collaboration network, is always an interesting question, in that it can provide many insight into academic fields. While traditional methods, such as spectral clustering, are based on the assumption that each node can be assigned to only one clustering, more and more observations suggest that communities in academic network probably...

Analyzing Patterns of Scientific Collaboration using Centrality Measures and Modularity

Modularity is generally used as a measure for determining goodness of clustering. In this paper, we performed analysis on coauthorship network. The authors belong to the field of Biology related to different research and academic institutes from all over the world. We took different centrality measures such as betweenness, degree, page rank, closeness and ranked authors on the basis of these me...

By analysing the publication behavior of researchers from a large European scientific university, we argue that in certain cases, the community level constitutes...
